nicotine delivery

I  had an interesting conversation last night at the El Baton event at the Smokeworks regarding tobacco in its different forms, and the stigmas applied to each. The average cigar smoker smokes 5 cigars a week, but is still perceived as being a nicotine addict like a cigarette smoker. The truth is cigarettes are a “nicotine delivery” device, and I raised the point that smokeless tobacco was pretty much equivalent.

Each form of tobacco usage is truly different. Pipe smoking is a attentive and focused act, with a myriad of selections in flavors, pipes, etc. Cigars do not have that broad of a selection in distinct flavors, but do have a vast choice of more minute distinctions. There’s definitely more a nicotine kick than pipes also. Next up there’s cigarettes, where we enter the realm of nicotine delivery, and also start inhaling the smoke, where imho things go wrong. Last but not least is smokeless tobacco products, where nicotine delivery is most concentrated.

For me, the pipe will always be number one, but it is enjoyable to have a cigar from time to time as a social experience, particularly related to celebrations. It’s also a bit more comfortable in the warmer months, given a hot pipe full of hot tobacco on a hot summer day isn’t the most enjoyable event.
